Cherry Bounce
Location - Hemel Hempstead
Client - Dacorum Borough Council
Our Role - Architect, Urban Designer
An architectural design competition, Cherry Bounce sought proposals for 125 homes and apartments on an undeveloped, triangular-shaped, sloping site in Hemel Hempstead. Situated on elevated ground between the old town and open countryside, the competition required applicants to propose a mix of social rent and private sale housing to respect the site’s historic setting.
Taking a landscape-led approach, the design proposal exploited the constraints of the steeply sloping site to create a unique character that would sit well as a transitional space between the urban and rural neighbourhoods. Split level, back-to-back housing allows for the required high density without compromising on overall liveability and movement.
