Design Development

The hanging tile feature entrance of the DENS building was derived from the abstraction of the famous Hertfordshire Puddingstone.

The colours of the tiles were originally derived from the stone and adjusted to better reference the surrounding woodland and link to the red brick used on the residential building taken from the local vernacular architecture.

Hand sketches were a useful tool to communicate design intent to the multiple key stakeholders throughout the development of the project.
